68-Second Rule

Also known as 68 seconds technique

Set a timer for 68 seconds, then spend that time silently holding a single, specific positive thought about what you want — no interruptions, no doubt — repeating this once a day.

Moderate Dozens of dedicated how-to articles, Medium posts, and YouTube tutorials exist, including multiple videos from the official Abraham-Hicks Publications channel (852K subscribers, 82M total channel views). TikTok search surfaces named creators such as @andydooley and @tonynaemi posting 68-second technique content, and a discover page exists at tiktok.com/discover/how-to-manifest-anything-in-68-seconds. The technique is well-documented across LoA blogs but lacks a single breakout viral moment comparable to #369method (2B+ TikTok views), placing it in the moderate tier within the Law of Attraction niche.

What it is

The 68-Second Rule is a Law of Attraction practice drawn from Abraham Hicks's book "Ask and It Is Given" (2004). The idea is that focused thought reaches a "combustion point" at 17 seconds, and that chaining four consecutive 17-second bursts — totaling 68 seconds — gives any intention enough momentum to begin manifesting. Practitioners typically sit quietly, choose one clear desire, and hold an undistracted, emotionally positive mental image of it for the full 68 seconds, often using a timer. The practice is designed to be done once daily, ideally in the morning before the analytical mind is fully active.

How to do it

  1. Sit somewhere quiet and eliminate all distractions — phone off, no background noise.
  2. Choose one specific desire or goal you want to manifest. Write it down first if it helps you stay focused.
  3. Set a timer for exactly 68 seconds.
  4. Close your eyes and hold a clear, positive mental image of already having that desire. Keep the thought single and uninterrupted — no doubts, no 'but what if' thoughts.
  5. If a cancelling thought intrudes, start the 68 seconds over from zero.
  6. When the timer ends, release the thought deliberately — do not dwell on it for the rest of the day.
  7. Repeat once daily, preferably first thing in the morning.

What people use it for

  • love / specific person (SP)
  • money and financial goals
  • career and success
  • health and body image
  • general desire manifestation
  • mindset reset and positive thinking habit

Where it comes from

Originated with Esther and Jerry Hicks (as "Abraham Hicks") in their teachings from at least the early 2000s; first codified in the book "Ask and It Is Given," published October 2004 by Hay House. The specific claim that 68 seconds of pure thought is the "combustion point" for manifestation appears on page 109 of that book. The technique has since been widely repackaged by Law of Attraction content creators, meditation app developers, and self-help bloggers.
