Pillow Method
Also known as Under the pillow method
You write a desired outcome on a piece of paper in present tense, slide the paper under your pillow, and go to sleep focusing on that statement for 7–10 nights in a row.
Widespread The hashtag #pillowmethod has over 50.3 million views on TikTok. The trend went viral in July 2022 when creator Valeria Romero (@valeriafune) posted about using it to ace an exam; Bustle covered it in June 2023 and Stylist.co.uk independently reported on it, confirming mainstream press pickup. The technique is routinely listed alongside the 369 method and scripting as one of the five most viral TikTok manifestation techniques.
What it is
The Pillow Method is a sleep-based manifestation practice in which a handwritten affirmation or desired-reality statement is placed under the practitioner's pillow each night. The rationale is that the mind is most open to suggestion at the threshold of sleep, so the written intention is meant to seed the subconscious during that transition. Practitioners write in present tense ("I have," "I am") and typically keep the paper under the pillow for 7–10 consecutive nights while visualizing the desired outcome before drifting off. No tools beyond pen and paper are required, which is why it is often cited as one of the most beginner-friendly manifestation techniques.
How to do it
- Get into a relaxed state before bed — slow breathing, quiet environment, no screens.
- Write your desired outcome on paper in present tense and first person (e.g., 'I have the job offer I wanted' or 'I am in a loving relationship'). Write it 3–6 times on the same sheet.
- Fold the paper and slide it under your pillow.
- As you lie down, read or silently repeat the statement, then close your eyes and hold a clear mental picture of the outcome as if it has already happened.
- Repeat every night for 7–10 consecutive nights without removing the paper.
- On the final night, remove the paper and release attachment to the outcome — burn, bury, or discard it as a deliberate act of letting go.
What people use it for
- specific person (SP) / love manifestation
- academic success
- career and job offers
- financial outcomes
- housing / relocation goals
- general wish fulfillment
Where it comes from
No single creator is credited with inventing the technique; it draws loosely on Neville Goddard's mid-20th-century SATS (State Akin To Sleep) practice, which also uses the hypnagogic threshold as a manifestation window. The modern viral form was popularized on TikTok in mid-2022, most visibly by Valeria Romero (@valeriafune), whose video about manifesting an exam grade spread widely across #SpiritualTikTok.
