11:11 Phenomenon
Also known as 11:11 make a wish
When you notice 11:11 on a clock, you pause, close your eyes, and silently state one wish or intention as if it has already happened — then let the thought go without telling anyone.
Mainstream The #angelnumbers hashtag on TikTok has 1.6 billion views; the related #1111manifestation hashtag has 3.5 million posts. Gabby Bernstein — a #1 NYT bestselling author with 298K YouTube subscribers and 282K TikTok followers — produces dedicated 11:11 portal content annually. Refinery29 and Bustle both publish annual 11/11 explainers, and on 11/11/2011 there was a documented global spike in marriage registrations tied to the date. The practice spans Snapchat (sending a crush a 11:11 snap), TikTok portal rituals, and mainstream wellness press.
What it is
The 11:11 Phenomenon is the practice of treating the moment you catch the clock reading 11:11 as a cue to make a focused wish or set a clear intention. Rooted in New Age numerology, which holds that the repeating digit pattern acts as a "portal" or moment of heightened receptivity, practitioners pause for roughly 60 seconds to hold a mental image of something they want — often phrasing it as already real. The ritual requires nothing beyond the clock sighting itself and is done solo, silently. It has grown from fringe 1990s New Age circles into one of the most widely recognised pop-culture superstitions, amplified by digital clocks, social media, and the broader angel-number trend.
How to do it
- Notice the clock reading 11:11 — on a phone, microwave, car dashboard, or any digital display.
- Stop what you are doing for about 60 seconds. Take two slow breaths.
- Bring one specific wish, goal, or intention clearly to mind. State it internally as if it has already come true (e.g., 'I have the relationship I want' rather than 'I hope I find love').
- Feel, briefly, the emotion you would have if the wish were real.
- Release the thought — do not dwell, worry, or analyse it. Some practitioners add a brief moment of gratitude.
- Keep the wish to yourself. A widespread informal rule holds that telling someone cancels the wish.
- Optional: note the sighting in a journal to track patterns or reinforce belief.

Where it comes from
Popularised in modern form by Solara Antara Amaa-Ra, who founded the New Age group Star-Borne Unlimited in 1986 and published the book 11:11: Inside the Doorway in 1992. Amplified in the 1990s–2000s by Israeli psychic Uri Geller, who linked 11:11 to world events and spiritual awakening. The term "angel numbers" applied to this pattern was later coined by New Age author Doreen Virtue in the early 2000s. The practice crossed into mainstream pop culture via social media during the 2010s and accelerated sharply during the COVID-era manifestation boom on TikTok (WitchTok / ManifestationTok).
