Each Full Moon illuminates and shines its light on our emotions and feelings, with every month we get a chance to acknowledge and embrace them.
We can like how we are feeling and rejoice, or we may feel uneasy with what is going on and initiate actions to change.
Kundalini Yoga offers us techniques to help raise our awareness of our body, mind, emotions and feelings and teaches ways to effectively shed what keeps us enslaved to old patterns.
This moon is in astrological Pisces and its element is water. The water element rules emotions so we can expect to be more emotional. We might get some rain and the tides will be high.
According to traditional Chinese medicine Pisces rules the liver meridian.
The liver is the largest glandular organ in the body and performs multiple critical functions to keep the body pure of toxins and harmful substances.
The liver is considered a gland—an organ that secretes chemicals—because it produces bile, a substance needed to digest fats. Bile’s salts break up fat into smaller pieces so it can be absorbed more easily in the small intestine. 1)
In addition to producing bile, the liver:
- Detoxifies the blood to rid it of harmful substances such as alcohol and drugs
- Stores some vitamins and iron
- Stores the sugar glucose
- Converts stored sugar to functional sugar when the body’s sugar (glucose) levels fall below normal
- Breaks down hemoglobin as well as insulin and other hormones
- Converts ammonia to urea, which is vital in metabolism
- Destroys old red blood cells (called RBC’s) 1)
Both TCM and Ayurveda attribute liver congestion to heat that is trapped in the liver. Ayurveda views the liver as “hot” or “pittic.” 2)
Ayurveda describes symptoms caused by excess pitta that are very similar to what is called “liver fire” in TCM: headaches; flushed face; red, burning eyes; acne; nosebleeds; and outbursts of anger. 2)
Eating cooling foods, getting regular exercise, and taking time to relax—are often enough to bring pitta back into functional balance. 2)
- eat sour foods and homemade yogurt
- drink Grapefruit juice or warm lemon water
- Recipe for liver - blend 1 grapefruit, 2 oranges, 1 lime (or lemon), a handful of shelled raw sunflower seeds, add honey to taste.
- Casserole - combine in a baking pan 1 bunch of beets (3-5), 1 lb. carrots, 2 bunches scallions, 3 cloves of fresh chopped garlic, 1 cube butter, tamari, black pepper, 1 lb. grated cheese (goat is best), and cook in oven. Add cheese at the end to avoid burning.
- Avoid or moderate sweets.
- A juice blend of beet/carrot/celery juice
As the full moon approaches, the symptoms of an out of balance liver meridian, gets stronger.
I don't know about you, but I strongly feel this energy within and also witness it all around me.
Clients complain of tiredness, foot pain, tightness in chest and shoulders, nausea and indigestion, irritability and a short temper. These are some of the symptoms of an out of balance liver meridian.
By working with this influence of the moon, we have an opportunity to shed old patterns of reacting.
and clear and heal this energy circuit.
Full Moon Community Healing Circle is this Thursday
Sat Nam Friends,
Septembers harvest moon brings with it a plethora of events all beginning with Yogi Bhajans' birthday August 26th.
Happy Birthday Memories Of Yogi Bhajan is a beautiful account of Yogi Bhajan with some special messages for you.
I turned 60 at the beginning of the month and to my surprise it feels awesome.
I contribute this to shedding old patterns, not taking things so seriously anymore, doing what I love and a Kundalini Yoga lifestyle.
For Thursdays Healing Circle, I am planning for us to connect to our chakras and the tatvas (the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether), with music and movement, followed by a gong bath and then together we will chant RA MA DA SA to raise the healing vibrations for ourselves, family, community and the world.
I am looking forward seeing you.
Let us celebrate the harvest moon, the changing season, and each other with Yogi Tea and a healthy snack.
Yours in Love and Peace,
May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you, and the pure light within you guide your way on.
