The biggest insult to kidneys is the failure to drink enough water. Eating a lot before bed compounds the problem, since the kidneys concentrate that waste all night. It is critical to monitor and deal with any symptoms of high blood pressure, as high blood pressure damages the kidneys and, ultimately the heart. (1)

The kidneys sit right under the diaphragm, so improving the flexibility in the spine and diaphragm will open up the nerves and blood circulation in this area; exercises like spinal flex increase the blood circulation to the kidneys.
Many elements of a yogic diet stimulate the kidneys to eliminate wastes and decreases their workload by decreasing the intake of toxins.
Stopping the flow of urine several times while urinating is good for strengthening the perinea; muscle and helps prevent incontinence.
This tea is my favorite way to both cleans, and build, my blood, colon, nervous system and bones. It combats colds, flu and physical weakness and it is SO delicious. I quadruple the recipe so that I have enough for a whole day.
10 oz water
2 slices of fresh ginger root
4 green cardamon pods, cracked
4 black peppercorns
½ stick cinnamon
¼ teaspoon black tea (teabag)
½ cup milk (almond, soy, etc.)
Honey to taste
Bring water to boil and add spices. Cover and continue boiling for 10-15 minutes.
Remove from heat, add black tea and let steep for 1-2 minutes.
Add honey and milk, bring to a boil and remove from heat. Strain and serve.
Makes one cup.
